Resumes are often created to tell a specific story, lean into narrative (not just software engineer, but a data engineer with expertise in some technologies)
fuck that, thatâs fake
Life is messy. Theres no need for us to craft these contrived paths beyond getting the job.
Not only is it a misrepresentation, but a key detractor for avoiding a life of total work
My Personal Take
Iâm donât identify as a software engineer, no amount of corporate kool aid is gonna convince me otherwise
Will I be leaving money on the table by thinking this way? Definitely
But when i think about a life of total work and how it relates to our need to accept and embrace the roads untravelled, I see this as the one that I would have the least regret not going down
I think of my childhood love for drawing
I think of my curiosities for music
I think of my interest in running a business
Even this when I unpack is likely partly held back by my realism
This is why guiding principles includes a section about my dreams and fears
